About ELEC
Following the need
for a representative CERN-wide committee to oversee and guide computing
support for electronic engineering, ELEC (ELectronics Engineering
Committee) has been established. This committee discusses and
agrees on common policies to be followed, along with work plans and
budget requests. ELEC reports to the Technical Director who appoints
its chairperson and approves its membership. For computing support for
mechanical engineering, such a committee, called CAEC has been operating
successfully since 1988.
The idea of creating
ELEC was discussed during the summer of 1997 with the leaders of all
concerned divisions (departments) and received their full support.
The principal tasks
of ELEC are:
- to approve technical
choices of both hardware and software;
- to plan, request
and distribute the ELEC budget;
- to advise the
concerned support groups on their policy.
ELEC should aim
to cover all computing tools for electronic engineering used at CERN.
ELEC Members
The Technical Director
appoints the chairperson. Each interested department nominates at most
two members for ELEC. These members represent the departmental hierarchy
in the area of EDA. The Technical Director
approves the nominations in consultation with the ELEC chair. The
Electronics User Group chair is an ex-officio
member as are IT members responsible for the installation and support of
the tools.
The current membership is as follows:
ELEC Chair:
S. Haas / PH
Departmental representatives:
E. van der Bij / BE, R. Denz / TE,
P. Farthouat / PH,
M. Hansen /
PH,
W. Hofle / BE, D. Nisbet / BE, J. Serrano / BE
User-Group chair:
Electronics User Group
- A. Kluge
/ PH
EDA-tool support:
P. Baehler / IT,
J. Evans / IT (ELEC secretary)
